Configuring A Bandwidth Control Rule

Procedure

1. Configure the basic rule information:

   Item	Setting
   Rule name	Specify a unique name for the bandwidth control rule.
   Description	(Optional) Meaningful description to easily identify the bandwidth control rule.
   Enable	Click On or Off to enable or disable the bandwidth control rule. If you no longer need a bandwidth control rule, delete it, instead of setting Enable to Off.

2. In the Users/Groups section, select the users, user groups, or IP address groups that the bandwidth control rule applies to.
   Options include:

   • All: All users and groups created on or synchronized to the management console.
   • Selected users/user groups: Specific users or user groups from those configured on the Hosted Users screen and synchronized from your organization's Active Directory servers.
     Exclude the following users or user groups: (Optional) those among the selected users or user groups to be excluded from the rule.

     Note User groups are displayed in bold.

   • Selected IP address groups: Specific IP address groups from those configured on the IP Address Groups screen. You can also click Add IP Address Group to create a new IP address group on the current screen.

     Note

     Exclude the following IP address groups: (Optional) those among the selected IP address groups to be excluded from the rule.
3. In the Traffic Types section, select the application categories that the bandwidth control rule applies to.
   Options include:

   • All: All application categories predefined by Trend Micro.
   • Selected traffic types: Specific application categories from the lists predefined by Trend Micro.

     Note When you create a rule, current connections will not be controlled by the rule. For example: If a user is logged on to Skype while an administrator creates a rule to control bandwidth usage for Skype, the user can continue to use Skype. However, once the user logs off and logs back on to Skype again, the bandwidth control rule will be in effect.

4. In the Schedule section, select the day and time to enforce the bandwidth control rule. You can enforce the rule all the time, or on certain days of the week and hours of the day.
5. In the Bandwidth Throttling section, specify the upstream and downstream bandwidth limits and service priority for traffic of the selected application categories in the bandwidth control rule.
   • Guaranteed bandwidth: Bandwidth that can be expected to be provided for traffic that matches the rule.

     Note The guaranteed upstream or downstream bandwidth cannot be greater than the maximum bandwidth. The total guaranteed upstream or downstream bandwidth in all enabled bandwidth control rules cannot exceed the overall bandwidth in Bandwidth Control Global Settings.

   • Maximum bandwidth: Upper threshold of bandwidth that can be expected to be provided for traffic that matches the rule.

     Note The maximum upstream or downstream bandwidth in a bandwidth control rule cannot exceed the overall bandwidth in Bandwidth Control Global Settings.

   • Service priority: Whether the transport channel for traffic that matches the bandwidth control rule should be dropped. This allows the transport channel to free up the required resources or pre-empt the resources from another transport channel with a lower service priority during exceptional network resource limitations, for example, network congestion. Service priorities come with the following order from high to low: Premium, High, Medium, Low.
6. Click Save.
