Procedure

  1. Sign in to your Okta organization.
  2. Click Admin to open the Admin Console.

  3. Find your Okta URL domain.
    1. In the upper-right corner of the Okta admin console, click on your user name.
      A panel with your user name and Okta domain appears.

  4. Create an API token.

    • Ensure your account has any of the following roles assigned before creating an API token.
      Feature
      User roles allowed
      Data upload
      • Super admin
      • Org admin
      • API access management admin
      • Mobile admin
      • Read-only admin
      • App admin
      User enforcement
      • Super admin
      • Org admin
      • Group admin
    • API tokens have the same permissions as the user who creates them. If the user permissions change, the API token permissions also change.
    1. In the Okta admin console, go to SecurityAPITokens.
    2. Click Create Token.

    3. Specify a name for the token and click Create Token.
    4. Copy the token value.

      Once you close the Create token dialog, the authentication token is no longer available to view or copy.
